Interior designer Marika Meyer created a comfortable yet durable space that emphasizes indoor-outdoor living in a rural landscape.
A Fauquier County, Va., couple with two teenagers wanted to enhance their property’s existing pool with a functional, stylish pool house for entertaining family and friends. Architect Timothy Clites designed the 1,700-square-foot structure with 620 square feet of covered porches, blending traditional exterior materials with a contemporary interior. Interior designer Marika Meyer created a comfortable yet durable space suitable for three generations, including a gym wing and an entertainment wing. The design emphasizes indoor-outdoor living, with a strong connection to the pool, covered porch, and pergola, all encouraging guests to enjoy the rural landscape. Durable materials, like concrete floors and stainless steel shelving, complement softer furnishings designed to withstand wet bathing suits. Currently, the pool house serves as the family’s primary gathering spot while their main house is under construction. It functions equally well for small family visits and larger gatherings, providing a flexible, stylish retreat for summer fun.
