Home & Design - Summer 2025

We are honored to have Marika’s home featured on the cover of Home & Design magazine’s Summer 2025 edition. This issue shines a spotlight on the homes of interior designers throughout the Washington, D.C. area, and we’re thrilled to have this special project included. We’re grateful to Home & Design for celebrating the craft and care that goes into every space we create.

In Home & Design’s Summer 2025 issue, designer Marika Meyer shares how she transformed a 1949 center-hall Colonial in Somerset, Maryland, into her family’s forever home. After writing a heartfelt letter to the elderly owner—who had also raised two boys in the house—Meyer was invited to visit and soon after purchased the property. Though the home had great flow and solid bones, earlier renovations called for a fresh perspective.

Collaborating with architect Peter Miles, Meyer reimagined the rear of the house, replacing a dated 1990s kitchen with a bright, conservatory-style space featuring expansive windows and a raised ceiling that connect to the garden. The new layout includes an oversized island, cozy banquette, and a much-improved flow for both everyday living and entertaining.

Throughout the rest of the home, Meyer thoughtfully reworked passageways, added a powder room and coat closet, and converted the original kitchen into a butler’s pantry. She layered in timeless vintage pieces and cherished family heirlooms, honoring her grandmother’s classic style while keeping things fresh and livable.

A bold touch of whimsy appears in the living room, where Farrow & Ball’s iconic Lotus wallpaper—instantly recognized by her sons from their previous home—brings a sense of continuity and comfort. “Now it really feels like home,” one of them remarked.
